The Scouts took part in the Jamboree Over The Internet (JOTI) event again this year. This is a worldwide event that scouts from most countries take part in. Click on either of the pictures to go to the JOTI website and see the pictures of the event. They talked to scouts from all over the world and used Skye to talk and see each other. Here is Peter talking to scouts in North Carolina, USA. Many thanks to Ian who organised the whole event and to the WIA for very kindly letting the scouts use their fantastic facillities. A number of scouts were awarded their Global Challenge badges after this activity and the follow-up work that they did later.

This year we had two teams of Scouts enter the annual Malvern Challenge. This is a weekend camping event that includes an eight mile hike with eight challenges to complete along the way on the Saturday. In addition, there were other great events over the weekend including talent competitions, sports competitions, headline bands and a fair. There were around 4500 people attending this event from many areas of the country including scouts, explorers and guides. Above we can see one of our teams completing the Abseiling activity. |

All the scouts took part in the Scuba Diving introduction session recently as part of their Adventure Challenge badges. This was the first time that these scouts had done this activity and was really enjoyed by them all. The sessions took place at Thornbury leisure centre in March. More photos can be seen in the Scout Gallery.

Scout Programme 2010-1011 |
|

We are lining up some great activities for the Scout Troop this year. There will be a big emphasis on completing the Challenge badges which lead to the Chief Scouts Award. Our leading scouts will be taking an active part in the programme planning this year so all scouts should talk to their Patrol Leaders or Scout Leaders if they have any ideas for activities or badge work they would like to do. The programme can be seen in the usual place under the Scout Menus, just look for Scout Programme. |

The scouts recently took part in a sailing taster session down at the Bristol Docks and had a great time. The troop sailed in three boats and the evening weather was just right. It was a great location and this activity formed part of the adventure challenge badge. More pictures of the evening can be seen in the new scout gallery. |
